Beetroot
[Beta vulgaris]
The beetroot is a traditional root vegetable that originally came from the Mediterranean before being brought to our shores by the Romans. It has been a highly prized and versatile dye ever since. Probably initially cultivated in monastery gardens, we now grow it as a classic winter vegetable. Anyone that cooks with beetroot knows just how powerful a dye it can be.
The beetroot is gently dried and then ground into a pure powder without any additives. As a natural pigment in plant-based hair dye, it’s ideal for giving hair a red sheen and more shine. Its caring properties are down to its high vitamin B and mineral content. Unlike chemical hair dyes, the ingredients don’t penetrate the hair’s natural structure, rather create a protective film around each strand.
